What Is the Role of a Health and Wellness Consultant?

Based in Honokaa, Hawaii, Dr. Justin Groode has years of experience as a health and wellness expert and consultant. In this capacity, Dr. Justin Groode works with individuals, groups, and corporate entities to deliver the most beneficial individualized wellness solutions and restorative health programs.

Members of a growing field, health and wellness consultants strive to help their clients meet various physical and health-related goals. In general, consultants focus on areas such as nutrition, fitness, and stress management in an effort to encourage clients to live healthier lives. Testing is often involved in order to determine an individual's food sensitivities (foods that cause inflammation in the body), intestinal and immune imbalances, and adrenal stress response and function, to name a few. The primary objective of health and wellness consulting is to encourage lasting changes in a client’s lifestyle rather than generating immediate, more temporary effects.

Unlike other health professionals, health and wellness consultants act as wellness partners and coaches throughout their clients’ journeys. They work directly with each client to determine where that individual would like to go in terms of health and what path he or she should take to reach that end. While they typically do not provide medical services they may be willing to collaborate with licensed medical professionals and primary care provides where appropriate.

Weekend Adventure Program Empowers Adolescent Boys

A holistic health and wellness consultant in Hawaii, Dr. Justin Groode also volunteers at local schools for the Hawaii chapter of Boys to Men Mentoring. In addition, Dr. Justin Groode has served on the organization’s development committee. Boys to Men Mentoring provides guidance and support to adolescent boys through services such as the Weekend Adventure program.

Weekend Adventure targets boys aged 14 to 17 at risk of dropping out of school or succumbing to violence or addiction by empowering them to become compassionate and accountable adults. Designed to establish positive journeys toward manhood, the program offers leadership opportunities that build confidence and allow boys to learn more about themselves. The program also engages participants in team-building activities that emphasize tolerance and acceptance while fostering a sense of community. Boys learn to deal with issues at home or school in a safe setting with the support of peers and mentoring role-models.

Boys to Men Mentoring holds Weekend Adventure programs periodically for the boys. Parents must sign a waiver in order for their children to get involved. Participating role-models are registered mentors and volunteers with Boys to Men. For more information about Weekend Adventures, visit b2mhawaii.org/boys-men-hawaiis-adventure-weekend.

American Youth Soccer Organization Tips for Healthy Eating

Dr. Justin Groode previously served as an experienced provider of primary care and integrative and functional medical services. He is currently a holistic health consultant as well as a health educator and teacher. Dr. Justin Groode is also an active volunteer in his community, where he coaches his son’s youth soccer team and serves as a regional safety director for the American Youth Soccer Organization in Hawaii.

Established in 1964, the American Youth Soccer Organization is the nation’s oldest national youth soccer program. Over the last 50 years, the organization has developed programs in more than 900 communities throughout the United States and currently has 50,000 teams and 500,000 players enrolled. Along with teaching children how to play the game, American Youth Soccer helps them and their families prepare for games by providing tips for improving their fitness, including insights into healthy eating.

Proper dietary habits are particularly important before an intense physical activity like soccer practice or a game. Eating enough carbohydrates is important, as carbohydrates essentially act as fuel for the body. Players are advised to load up on carbohydrate-rich meals like pasta or rice, or, if they prefer something lighter, to eat foods like cereal and yogurt.

Some children may require a quick energy boost but dislike eating too soon before a game. In this case, American Youth Soccer recommends healthy snacks like nuts or a peanut butter sandwich. Children should avoid junk foods and sugar-laden products such as chocolate pudding, which burn very quickly but can ultimately sap the body of energy later on during a game.
