Weekend Adventure Program Empowers Adolescent Boys

A holistic health and wellness consultant in Hawaii, Dr. Justin Groode also volunteers at local schools for the Hawaii chapter of Boys to Men Mentoring. In addition, Dr. Justin Groode has served on the organization’s development committee. Boys to Men Mentoring provides guidance and support to adolescent boys through services such as the Weekend Adventure program.

Weekend Adventure targets boys aged 14 to 17 at risk of dropping out of school or succumbing to violence or addiction by empowering them to become compassionate and accountable adults. Designed to establish positive journeys toward manhood, the program offers leadership opportunities that build confidence and allow boys to learn more about themselves. The program also engages participants in team-building activities that emphasize tolerance and acceptance while fostering a sense of community. Boys learn to deal with issues at home or school in a safe setting with the support of peers and mentoring role-models.

Boys to Men Mentoring holds Weekend Adventure programs periodically for the boys. Parents must sign a waiver in order for their children to get involved. Participating role-models are registered mentors and volunteers with Boys to Men. For more information about Weekend Adventures, visit b2mhawaii.org/boys-men-hawaiis-adventure-weekend.
